Working with doctoral student Danielle Falk and master’s students Emily Ervin and Jon Kwok, Associate Professor Mary Mendenhall developed a series of multimedia resources as part of a larger effort (for more details, see the Comparative Educational Leadership Lab) to assist school leaders in under-resourced regions by providing unique case study training material via a smartphone-based virtual learning platform.

The photography and videos submitted to the "Artistic Ways of Knowing" exhibit, hosted online from February 14th to March 3rd by the Macy Art Gallery, capture a “day in a life” of school leaders in these settings and a behind the scenes view into the production side of this work. 

In deciding to curate a selection of images and videos for the exhibit, Professor Mendenhall "felt that it was important to share the stories, including the challenges and opportunities that school leaders in refugee and displacement settings face in their work as their experiences are often excluded from research studies and other projects that focus on refugee education."

Moreover, Professor Mendenhall believes that "further attention is needed to understand the roles and responsibilities of school leaders in these contexts, and the incredible efforts and sacrifices they make to educate refugee learners."
